Parental and family support

Anita offers counselling support to parents who are experiencing difficulty managing a child with additional psychological, emotional, behavioural, physical and/or social needs. For example, the diagnostic process in itself is often highly stressful for parents. Feelings such as shock, guilt, anger, relief, sadness and overwhelm may be felt. Counselling provides a gentle and confidential space to discuss and work through such feelings, to identify strengths, and to learn coping and management strategies.

Family therapy aims to strengthen families and to enhance child and adolescent age-appropriate independence. It can be helpful for siblings, parenting, blended family issues, adolescent/parent differences, and adjustment following challenging life events (e.g. grief and loss, separation and divorce, illness). When working with adults and families, Anita’s approach centres around positive psychology, behaviour therapy, cognitive beavioural therapy, strengths-based and solution-focused techniques, as well as psychoeducational support.

Anita is a trained facilitator for the 123 Magic/Three Step parenting program. She works individually with parents, and also facilitates a 3 session group program. Please contact Anita for more information and/or to register your interest in this program.
