Early Intervention

If a child experiences a developmental delay or problem, difficulties can compound over time.

Early intervention has several goals:

  • to provide support to families to assist their child’s development
  • to promote children's development in key domains such as communication, mobility and social skills
  • to promote children's confidence and coping strategies
  • to prevent the emergence of future problems

The term early intervention also applies to implementing strategies and support to address early signs of difficulties in psychological, emotional, behavioural and/or social health.
